A modern day story of the search for fortune in the world of West Texas oil rigs. A landman, at least one working in the oil industry, acts as an intermediary between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners who have mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Essentially, they manage the land and secure leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, housing for workers (man camps), oversee the assembly of mining equipment, and drilling the well site, especially in remote locations. They are also part fixer, problem solver, and facilitator. Referenced on CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode 44.24 (2022). This could easily have been rated an 8.5 – 9. If it weren’t for the shy and so sexualized daughter & ex-wife/mother. They serve no plot purpose and are downright annoying and insulting to the women of West Texas. I understand where Sheridan is coming from in a way, but this is terrible. The women of West Texas are some of the strongest and most ambitious women I know. On top of that, the writing and acting are brilliant. Sheridan could easily have another Yellowstone on her hands if she can get rid of the very unpleasant inter-family feud. But again, I love Sheridan’s writing (and acting) and it’s definitely a very enjoyable show for the most part.
